THE EVENT

What is the event? 

For unity and peace within our families, our communities and our world. It is a multicultural event on the Feast of Corpus Christi which is an afternoon of Eucharistic Adoration and Global Living Rosary. “The family that prays together stays together” and “A world at prayer is a world at peace”, said Father Patrick Peyton, CSC. 

When and where is the event? 

Sunday, May 25, 2008 on the Feast of Corpus Christi at Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri 

What are the times for the event? 

3 to 5:30 p.m. Gates open at 2:00 p.m. 

Who is sponsoring the event? 

Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Missouri and Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. 

Why is the event being held? 

To encourage Catholics and others to enhance their faith through adoration of our Lord and praying the Rosary. In October 1955, 25,000 people filed into Kansas City’s Municipal Stadium to pray the Rosary and listen to Father Peyton speak of the beauty of the Blessed Virgin Mary and her call to family prayer.

What is the cost of admission? 

Admission and parking are free. We ask that you register on the web site to help us in planning for the event. www.eucharisticfamilyrosary.com 

How is the event being organized? 

A Core Committee comprised of volunteers is planning the event in collaboration with the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph Missouri and the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and Father Jim Kelleher, SOLT. The committee is using Father Peyton’s Rosary Handbook, an organizational campaign strategy to plan the event. Father Peyton used this methodology to conduct 40 Rosary prayer rallies around the world.

THE SERVICE

What exactly will take place? 

2:00 p.m. - Gates open, usher assisted open seating 

3:00 p.m. - Praise and Worship Music 

4:00 p.m. - Corpus Christi Procession, Adoration, Homily, Global Living Rosary, and Benediction 

5:30 p.m. – Services Conclude 

Who will participate in the service? 

His Excellency Most Reverend Robert W. Finn, D.D., Bishop of Kansas City St. Joseph Missouri and His Excellency Most Reverend Joseph F. Naumann, D.D., Archbishop of Kansas City in Kansas, will lead clergy, religious and the faithful in an afternoon of prayer, adoration, meditation and contemplation. 

What languages will be spoken during the service? 

The first half of the Rosary prayers are expected to be offered in more than 59 different languages representing the 5 continents of world-Asia, Africa, Europe, Americas and Oceania. 

Will communion be given? 

No, but there will be Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. 

What mysteries will be prayed? 

The Luminous Mysteries 

Will I need to bring my Rosary? 

Yes, it would be helpful to you in praying The Rosary, but it is not required. 

Will there be religious items for sale at the event?

No items will be sold. Kauffman Stadium will be transformed from an entertainment venue to a place of worship. 

Is the event limited to Catholics? 

The event is free and open to all people of faith and goodwill. 

TRAVEL & VENUE INFORMATION

Location Directions: 

Kauffman Stadium, home to the Kansas City Royals, is part of the Turman Sports Complex which s located in Kansas City, Missouri just south I-70 and east of I-435. Exits are well-marked and please follow signage for parking. Driving and parking instructions are on the Convention and Visitors Bureau website. http://www.visitkc.com/visitor_info/sports_premium.cfm?ID=10373 or the Kauffman Stadium website http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/kc/ballpark/getting_there.jsp. Buses should enter Gate 1. 

Will there be a parking fee? 

Parking is free. There is no reserved parking. Parking lots and stadium entrances are on the Kauffman Stadium website http://kansascity.royals.mlb.com/kc/ballpark/parking.jsp 

What is the recommended form of travel? 

All parishes and groups are encouraged to coordinate attendance by bus or car pool so that you can enjoy this experience as a group. 

How can I organize a bus for my church group or for my parish? 

Call a chartered bus company in your area or parish school buses. 

Is there reserved seating? 

This is a non-reserved seating event. Ushers will direct you to your seats on a first come, first serve basis. If you want to sit with your group, please make arrangements to meet in the parking lot outside the facility. 

Will I need a ticket? 

No tickets are needed. 

Will there be special parking for the event? 

Use the regular Kauffman Stadium parking facilities. 

Will there be handicap parking and seating? 

Kauffman Stadium has handicapped parking and seating facilities. Look for ushers in the handicapped parking area for assistance. 

Will food and water be available? 

With the Feast of Corpus Christi being combined with our afternoon of Eucharistic Adoration and Clobal Living Rosary, Kauffman Stadium will be transformed from an entertainment venue into a place of worship. We ask that you treat the Stadium (and its grounds) as you would church by wearing appropriate attire and only bringing food and water necessary for health and caring for our loved ones. Some free bottled water will be available, but we encourage you to bring some of your own. Concession stands will not be open in the stadium and no items will be for sale. 

Will there be an emergency First Aid station? 

There will be a First Aid / Emergency Station in the stadium and an ambulance on site.

Are washrooms available? 

Kauffman has fully-equipped washroom facilities. 

What airport is closest to the venue? 

Kansas City International Airport is located about 30 miles from the stadium. 

Are there designated hotels/motels for overnight accommodations? 

The Kansas City Convention and Visitors Bureau website has a listing of lodging in the area. There are several hotels within walking distance. http://www.visitkc.com/

Through the Diocese and Archdiocese publications The Catholic Key and Leaven, newspapers, radio, Catholic Radio KEXS 1090 and KAIR 1470, television and community programs, www.eucharisticfamilyrosary.com and and other Catholic websites. 

How can I make an individual, financial contribution? 

The costs of the event have been paid for by generous benefactors. If you wish to contirbute to the event check with your parish to see if they need help with transportation expenses or people need rosaries, information on praying the rosary or some other special need that would help people participate more fully in this once-in-a-lifetime event.
